Mindroling Monastery

Mindroling Monastery belongs to one of the three major monasteries of the Nyingma, the Monastery covering a large area of over 100,000 square meters (approx. 119,599 square yards), situated to the east of Zanang River in the Zanang County. The monastery was originally built in the late 10th century and has been renovated several times.

The monastery is known as its strict canon law and Attach great importance to the learning of Buddhist scriptures, astronomy, Tibetan lunar calendar, calligraphy, rhetoric, and Traditional Tibetan medicine. Therefore, it is called the First Learning Seat in Tibet.

There are several treasures in the Tresor Lhakhang and the most remarkable ones including a stone hoof print and a famed old thangka with the gold footprints and handprints of Terdak Lingpa. Unlike many other monasteries, the monks in Mindroling Monastery are allowed to get married and bear children.
