Brief Introduction

Mt. Kailash is the most sacred place in Tibet, every year, many people make a pilgrimage here, they believe circumambulating it will bring good fortune. This group tour covers all the must seeing places and scenic spots in Tibet, which is very similar to our 8 Days’ Mt. Everest tour, but it drives further to the wild northern part. Join this spiritual tour to follow the pilgrim to experience a different Tibet!

Itinerary Details

Day 1: Arrive in Lhasa(3600m)

Included meal: None

Welcome to Tibet! Meet your local Tibetan guide in Lhasa airport or train station. The afternoon is for you to rest and adjust to the high altitude.

Day 2: Guided tour of Lhasa

Included meal: Breakfast, Dinner

View the landmarks of Tibet’s holy and sunny capital on a guided sightseeing tour.

Visit the Potala Palace perched on the Red Mountain in the center of Lhasa, once served as the winter palace of Dalai Lama in the 7th Century

See the Jokhang Temple, the spiritual heart of Tibet

Wander about on Barkhor Street which is the holy ritual circuit for Tibetan pilgrims as well as a bustling walking street lined with small shops

Sit down to an included dinner with your group

Enjoy a free evening in Lhasa to explore at your own pace.

Day 3: Guided tour of Lhasa

Included meal: Breakfast

Another day to immerse in Tibet’s Buddhism and culture.

Drive 8 km west of Lhasa to visit the Drepung Monastery, one of the three “pillars of Tibet”

Witness the monks debating in Sera Monastery, one of the great Gelugpa monasteries just like Drepung Monastery

Drink a cup of sweat tea or butter tea in local tea house just like the local Tibetans do

Spend a free afternoon exploring the city on your own.

Day 4: Lhasa-Gyantse(3980m)-Shigatse(3840m)(360km, about 6 hours)

Included meal: Breakfast

Drive to Shigatse, the second biggest city of Tibet.

Drive through Kambala Pass at a height of 4794m which is the first point to enjoy the great beauty of the Yamdrok Lake

Have a close touch with the Yamdrok Lake by going to the lakeside

Stop by the Karola Glacier, one of Tibet's three major continental glaciers

Visit the Pelkor Monastery that have the architecture characteristics of Han, Tibet and Nepal

Stay overnight in Shigatse and have a good sleep. There will be long driving the next day.

Day 5: Shigatse-Rongbuk(4980m)-Everest Base Camp(5150m)(350km, about 8-9 hours)

Included meal: Breakfast

Forward to the Everest Base Camp today. Be prepared for the stunning scenery along the way. (Your guide will do the PSB application in the morning which might takes about 1.5hours.)

Explore the Tashilhunpo Monastery, one of the Great Four centers of the Gelugpa tradition and the seat of the successive lineage of the Panchen Lamas

Drive through the Gyatso-La Pass & Gawu-La Pass where you can see the extraordinary view of the Himalayan Range and the main peaks such as Mt. Makalu [8463m], Mt. Lhotse [8516m], Mt. Everest [8844m], Mt. Cho Oyu [8201m] and Mt. Shishapama [8020m]

Pay a visit to the Rongbuk Monastery, the highest monastery in the world with the residence of both monks and nuns

Enjoy the great beauty of the Mt. Everest and the nearby mountains, the tranquil and starry night

Tonight stay in the Rongbuk Guesthouse or tent guesthouse.

Day 6: Everest Base Camp-Saga(4487m)(300km, about 8 hours)

Included meal: None

Get up early to catch up the sunrise and shoot great pictures. Start for Mt. Kailash and stay tonight in Saga town.

Stop by Peikutso Lake, the biggest lake in Shigatse area, where you might encounter Tibetan Wild Donkey, Black-necked Crane, Bar-headed Goose etc.

Be ware of the homeless dogs and always keep a safe distance with them.

Day 7: Saga-Lake Manasarovar-Darchen(4600m)(510km, 8-9 hours)

Included meal: None

Another long drive day along the deserted land but accompanied by lakes, snow mountains, sheep and yaks.

Pass by the Lake Manasarovar, one of the holiest lakes in Tibet

Have a good sleep tonight and prepare for the next three days expedition.

Day 8: Mt. Kailash Kora: Darchen to Dirapuk(5090m)(7km driving, 13km trekking)

Included meal: None

Transfer in an eco-bus to Sershong village where you can rent yak or horse for carrying luggage. On the way to the destination today, have a great view of the west and north face of Mount Kailash.

Day 9: Mt. Kailash Kora: Dirapuk to Zutulpuk(4820m)(18km)

Included meal: None

Meet the hardest day of the three days trekking. Climb the Dolmala Pass with an altitude of 5640m is the climax today. Be ware of the strong wind. Call it a day when coming to the Zutulpuk Monastery which is said been built by Milarepa to take shelter from the rain.

Day 10: Mt. Kailash Kora: Zultulpuk to Darchen(14km)

Included meal: None

Trek through some easy path and get back to Darchen around noon.

Day 11: Darchen-Saga(4487m)(500km, about 9 hours)

Included meal: None

Take in once more the stunning scenery of Mt. Kailash and make your way back to Saga.

Day 12: Saga-Sakya(350km, about 6 hours)

Included meal: None

Continue your journey to Sakya.( Or Gyirong if any of the group members leaves from Gyirong border to Nepal.)

Day 13: Sakya-Shigatse(160km, about 3 hours)

Included meal: Breakfast

Leave for Neapl or set out to Sakya Monastery.

See the remarkable Tibetan Buddhist scriptures, murals and Thangkas in Sakya Monastery

Spend some leisure time in Shigatse or explore the local free market.

Day 14: Shigatse-Lhasa(270km, about 5 hours)

Included meal: Breakfast

Travel back to Lhasa via China Nepal friendship highway and view the magnificent Yalung Zangpo River. Enjoy the last night in Tibet to pick up some special gift for loved ones or just relax.

Transfer to Lhasa airport or train station for your flight home.
